Artist Advent Calendar - Day 4: Jillian Loux

Today’s advent pick is Jillian Loux, an Atlanta-based artist blending sultry bedroom pop vibes with deeply personal lyrics. At just 19, Jillian’s honey-smooth voice and knack for storytelling make her a standout in the indie pop scene. Her latest single, Help Me Remember, produced by Grammy-winner Frequency, gives a glimpse into her highly anticipated EP, Granted, dropping November 24th.

Drawing inspiration from artists like SZA and Lana Del Rey, Jillian’s music is raw, introspective, and endlessly relatable. Whether she’s locking listeners in with her addictive melodies or crafting unforgettable visuals, Jillian Loux is an artist you’ll want to keep your eye on this holiday season

NW: What's the weirdest thing that’s inspired a song?

Jillian: In the 7th grade my math class got split in half because it was too big. But all my friends were in the other class so I wrote a song called “drowning". I performed it for a talent show that year and it has humorously remained a staple song in my friend group.

NW: Who’s an artist you've recently discovered?

Jillian: Bobby “Blue” Band. I just discovered his songs "Ain’t no love in the heart of the city" and “Yolanda". I have been obsessed for the past month.

NW: What’s the biggest thing you learned about yourself this year?

Jillian: Snapchat is for your friends and your friends only.  There should be no other reason to use that app.

NW: What's the strangest place you've ever written or recorded music?

Jillian: I was inspired by the sounds around me on a rooftop in Cuba and wrote a couple verses to a song. Its probably the strangest because there is slim to no possibility ill ever get to go back there.

NW: If you could collab with any artist right now, who would it be?

Jillian: I have been loving Raye recently. I think her musical choices are so strong and inspiring. I would love to just be in the same room as her.

NW: What was your most-played song this year?

Jillian: Right now, my most listened to song this year is “Brillo” by Rosalía and J Balvin.

NW: Do you have a favorite fan interaction from this year?

Jillian: Fan is a generous term but one of my friends sent my music to their younger brother and he responded saying “She’s like an ethereal Tate Mcrae”. I really appreciated that one.

NW: What's a lyric from another artist that hits you hard every time?

Jillian: Every lyric in Adeles song, “I drink wine.” I cry to that song in the shower frequently.

NW: What song of yours do you feel proudest of?

Jillian: About two years ago I was on a writing trip in Australia with some amazing people. We wrote a song called “Godspeed 11/24” on November 24 which also happened to be my 18th birthday.  The song discusses getting older in a world that doesnt make sense and I would argue its my most relatable song. There's also this beautiful choir section at the end that I'm in love with.

NW: Who’s the most unexpected artist on your playlist right now?

Jillian: My most recently liked song is “Castaways” from the Backyardigans. So…

NW: Do you have a favorite holiday movie?

Jillian: Nightmare before Christmas. I just don’t know if I’d call it a Halloween movie or Christmas movie.

NW: Are you more of a ‘decorate everything’ or ‘less is more’ type of person?

Jillian: I want to say I'm a “less is more person” but in reality i’m probably a “decorate everything” person.

NW: What's the coolest holiday decoration you've ever seen?

Jillian: I can’t recall a specific decoration, but I will say I have a strong appreciation for people that go crazy hanging up lights. Like some well color coordinated Christmas lights make me very happy.

NW: Is there a city you’d love to spend the holidays in?

Jillian: I dream of a Christmas in London. Couldn’t tell you why, it just seems right.

NW: If you could invite any musician to your holiday dinner, who would it be?

Jillian: Post Malone probably.
