Slow Motion Burial: A Beautiful Musical Storm

Written by: Aura R.

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Fragile Animals, a band formed in 2016, brings substantial experience to the table. Despite having plans for touring and promoting a new single in 2020, the global landscape altered course, leading to the creation of their new album.

"Slow Motion Burial," the enthralling debut album from Fragile Animals, is set to release this upcoming Friday, December 1st. Featuring eleven tracks, it embarks on a mesmerizing shoegaze journey, delving into alternative sounds reminiscent of artists like Bic Runga, Mazzy Star, Depeche Mode, Portishead, and even Garbage.

Throughout the album's emotional landscape, they expertly blend angst with sweet and breezy sounds, utilizing production elements to craft a captivating sonic realm. Embracing clear trip-hop, classic 80s pop, pop-rock, and grunge influences, the album reimagines shoegaze in a unique light.

Boasting beautiful vocals and storytelling lyrics that explore self-doubt, sadness, loss, and hope, the album unfolds with the aptly named "Overthinking" and progresses into the angst-filled lead single "Lonely In The Sun," characterized by staple drums and airy guitar riffs. Tracks like "December" introduce a change of pace, offering a glimmer of sunshine amid stormy skies.

The album's latter half sees a shift in tempo, featuring the charming harmonic progressions of "Q.wk" and culminating with the alt-rock/post-punk fusion of "Everybody Wants The Luck" and the introspective ballad "Breath Out And In," bringing this emotional rollercoaster to a thought-provoking close.

Aptly named, this record embodies pandemic self-reflection, encapsulating the nuances of growth and release in a Slow Motion Burial, stirring emotions while holding a promise of a brighter tomorrow.
