The K's: The Welly Club, Hull.

Written by: Aubyn Rodgers

The K’s kicked off their UK tour at The Welly Club, Hull. An iconic intimate venue (880 person capacity) with a great atmosphere for live music. This was my first time seeing them, so I didn’t know what to expect, but I was immediately blown away by their performance and professionalism.

Following an incredible show from their support, The Clause and Camens, The K’s took to the stage after chants of “Yorkshire” and “Up The K’s!” filled the room. The band opened with the first track on their debut album, Icarus. The fast-paced song was made to be performed in a small lively room and immediately got the crowd ready for what was about to come.

The band's stage energy surged even more, along with the crowd after they sang “Chancer”, a single from their album, I Wonder If The World Knows. Chancer is an electric song about a night out, “she said she was a dancer”. The upbeat riff is the perfect song for a mosh in a sweaty venue like The Welly Club.

To settle the upbeat energy in the room, Jamie Boyle, the lead singer, introduced the band members, Ryan Breslin (lead guitar), Dexter Baker (bass guitar), and Jordan Holden (drums) before playing, “Lights Go Down”. A slow gentle-paced piano-led track about appreciating the people beside you, and the perfect track before an encore.

The dynamic vibe didn’t stop there with The K’s singing multiple fan favorites from their new album, such as “No Place Like Home” and “Throw It All Away”.

The band soon left the stage before reappearing for an encore where they sang another slow song, “Valley One” and “Hometown” a faster-paced song. Hometown is a relatable song with a 90s vibe of indie rock. It describes the feeling of being in your hometown and living for the weekend but also being discontent and easily persuaded.

To end an amazing set, The Ks finished their show with “Sarajevo”. A roaring song released in 2017 that captivates the energy of the crowd and the band effortlessly.
