Written by: Nadia Wegleski
Today, we’re spotlighting the wonderfully vibrant Heather LaRose! Whether she’s writing songs inspired by Teen Wolf, sharing spaghetti with fans in the Pride pit, or crafting emotional belters like Homecoming Queen, Heather brings creativity, humor, and heart to everything she does.
In this Q&A, she spills on her dream collab (Chappell Roan, anyone?), her strangest songwriting spot (Madonna’s bathroom 👀), and her love for holiday traditions in NYC. Plus, find out which lyric gives her chills every time and which unexpected artist is on her playlist.
Heather’s mix of charm, talent, and quirky stories makes her the perfect addition to this year’s advent calendar. Dive into her world below!
NW: What's the weirdest thing that's inspired a song?
Heather: I love binge watching tv shows and writing from the perspective of the characters. My song New Moon is inspired by the show Teen Wolf and it’s about turning into werewolf physically but deeper than that it’s about differentiating yourself from your shadow self and combating your darker thoughts.
NW: Who's an artist you've recently discovered?
Heather: An artist that I recently discovered who I’ve been adding to all of my playlists is Zoe Ko.
NW: What's the biggest thing you learned about yourself this year?
Heather: I just came out of a giant very messy breakup. I’m so impressed with how I’ve been able to navigate it. My perseverance and resilience have been tested but stayed so strong.
NW: What's the strangest place you've ever written or recorded music?
Heather: I wrote my song “party girl tears” in the bathroom of Madonna’s house during a pool party - I didn’t record it in the bathroom though!
NW: If you could collab with any artist right now, who would it be?
Heather: I saw Chappell Roan at The Troubadour back in 2023 and it’s been so exhilarating to see the way she’s exploded to the forefront of pop culture within the past 6 months! I’d love to collab with her! We’d have so much fun!
NW: What was your most-played song this year?
Heather: Hot To Go
NW: Do you have a favorite fan interaction from this year?
Heather: I met a bunch of my TikTok fans this summer while on tour but my absolute favorite moment was sharing my giant plate of spaghetti and meatballs in the pit of Sacramento Pride after opening up for Daya.
NW: What's a lyric from another artist that hits you hard every time?
Heather: Maisie Peters “History of Man”
I’ve pleaded with the powers and their plans
I’ve tried to rewrite it but I can’t
It’s the history, the history of man
NW: What song of yours do you feel proudest of?
Heather: All my new favorites are my releases that are lined up to be released in 2025! My song that’s out that I’m most proud of is “Homecoming Queen”. I love how emotionally vulnerable I was able to get and it’s a belting song that challenges my vocal range in all the best ways.
NW: Who's the most unexpected artist on your playlist right now?
Heather: Bowling for Soup. I genuinely listen to them very frequently.
NW: Do you have a favorite holiday movie?
Heather: The Holiday is always my go-to. At one point I watched it every night to fall asleep because I thought I was manifesting true love. All that happened was I dated a bunch of single dads that I should have avoided like the plague. Jude Law might exist in Europe but in California it’s Jude Lawless.
NW: Are you more of a 'decorate everything' or 'less is more' type of person?
Heather: Emotionally I decorate everything but when it comes down to what I actually tackle… that’s a great question.
NW: What's the coolest holiday decoration you've ever seen?
Heather: Growing up in New York I’ve always loved going to see the tree around this time of year and also all the shops on Madison go all out! I don’t remember the first time I saw this but I love giant snowglobes. I’ve seen a couple brands set up super cute doll villages in these snowglobes.
NW: Is there a city you'd love to spend the holidays in?
Heather: New York. Now. Forever. Always.
NW: If you could invite any musician to dinner who would it be?
Heather: Elvis! My Oma moved to the United States for him and it’s rumored that he’s my grandpa!
