Artist Advent Calendar - Day 7: BRASSIE

On Day 7 of our Artist Advent Calendar, we’re celebrating Brassie and the fearless authenticity she brings to the music world. Brassie is the kind of artist who turns the unexpected into art, blending raw emotion with sharp, unapologetic creativity. Her ability to take life’s quirks and challenges and shape them into powerful, relatable music sets her apart in today’s scene. Whether performing live or collaborating with others, her work radiates authenticity and a fearless approach to storytelling.

This year, Brassie has shown how music can create profound connections, whether it’s through performing for a captivated audience or crafting lyrics that cut straight to the heart. Her sound is as versatile as her inspirations, shifting effortlessly between introspection and unfiltered intensity.

As the holidays approach, Brassie’s easygoing vibe pairs perfectly with a touch of festive wonder. She embraces the magic of community and creativity, making her the perfect addition to our Advent Calendar. Stay tuned—there’s so much more to unwrap! 🌟

NW: What's the weirdest thing that’s inspired a song?

BRASSIE: I had a dream where I rhymed "chicken stir-fry" and "frickin bird's dry." I woke up and actually turned it into a whole song called "Dinnertime."

NW: Who’s an artist you've recently discovered?

BRASSIE: Destroy Boys - I love their sound & message and I discovered them through their recent collab with Mannequin Pussy.

NW: What's the strangest place you've ever written or recorded music?

BRASSIE: Either an old church converted to office space in Knoxville, Tennessee - or a cabin in the woods in Gibsons, British Columbia.

NW: Do you have a favorite fan interaction from this year?

BRASSIE: Not sure if this counts - but I opened for ((( O ))) earlier this year and wrote a song specifically for their show. (I checked out their music ahead of time and felt inspired.) I debuted the song for ((( O ))) fans and felt a deep connection to everyone through it. I think they really heard and appreciated the inspiration. When I finished playing it, all the breath seemed to leave the room at once before everyone cheered so loudly. It was a really special moment.

NW: What's a lyric from another artist that hits you hard every time?

BRASSIE: "Most days I feel like that rabbit/Waiting for something to happen/Waiting for a beautiful human/To Crush me and send me away" - Medium Build

NW: What song of yours do you feel proudest of?

BRASSIE: Right now I'm really proud of an unreleased song called "Fallout" with my collaborator, Vanic. It's a profane, rage-fueled diss track (lol) but I'm proud of the lyrics and proud of myself for processing/releasing some really difficult emotions in a relatively healthy way.(Shout out to Vanic for making the sickest tracks for me to write on!)

NW: Are you more of a ‘decorate everything’ or ‘less is more’ type of person?

BRASSIE: I love when other people decorate everything - but for me personally, less is more, only because I'm very unmotivated.

NW: What's the coolest holiday decoration you've ever seen?

BRASSIE: It has to be a programmed light show to music on someone's house!

NW: Is there a city you’d love to spend the holidays in?

BRASSIE: My sister and I stayed with my friend Alex in NYC around the holidays one year. It was a really beautiful time to be there and I'd go back.
