Next Wave: What inspired you to pursue music?

Cinema Hearts: I was not inspired; my mother forced me into music lessons at age 5 and I was not allowed to quit for 20 years. It was then that I realized my destiny was to entertain audiences and write songs that evoked joy into the world. And if I were to defy destiny, that would be sacrilegious.

Next Wave: Who are your musical influences or role models?

Cinema Hearts: Bartees Strange, Lana Del Rey, Mitski, and Ronnie Spector

Next Wave: What's the most challenging aspect of breaking into the music industry?

Cinema Hearts: Having enough time and money.

Next Wave: How do you go about promoting your music and building your fanbase?

Cinema Hearts: Cinema Hearts puts on a great live show. I also make a lot of videos on TikTok and Instagram. I have a lot of respect for music fans, so I want to make meaningful and entertaining art to put in the world.

Next Wave: How has technology and the internet impacted your music career?

Cinema Hearts: I love that I've become friends with people all over the world because of the Internet.

Next Wave: Do you have any advice for other up-and-coming musicians trying to make it in the industry?

Cinema Hearts: Be friendly, put yourself out there, stick to your musical taste and interests even if it's not "popular," and work everyday on your craft.

Next Wave: What are your long-term goals and aspirations?

Cinema Hearts: Do this forever. Go on a national tour. Write an amazing full-length record.

Next Wave: Can you share a memorable moment from your musical journey so far?

Cinema Hearts: I love that a lot of young women and girls relate to Cinema Hearts' music. I'm honored to have been a mentor to girls of all ages. I didn't have a lot of confidence when I was young so it's empowering to change the narrative.

Next Wave: Can you share a little about your creative process and how you come up with new ideas for songs?

Cinema Hearts: I have a hard time writing; it feels icky to indulge in something vulnerable like feelings. My latest thing is trying to write everyday so I can get over my apprehension of writing something "perfect".

Next Wave: What song, EP, or album of yours would you recommend to someone who is listening to your music for the first time?

Cinema Hearts: Watch the "Your Ideal" music video and that will give you a good sense of Cinema Hearts. It's a song and video based on my experience competing in pageants. Also listen to my latest EP I Want You.
