In an unexpected twist, Bradley Simpson, the lead vocalist of the renowned British band The Vamps, has stepped into the solo spotlight, revealing a series of live performances and the release of his debut single, "Cry at the Moon." This solo venture follows the path of James McVey, who is preparing for his debut headline tour after the launch of his EP "Manabi," and Connor Ball, who has been rocking out with pop-punk band Lunars (formerly The Lunar Year) since 2021. All three have assured fans that The Vamps are not disbanding despite their individual projects.
Simpson is scheduled to commence his solo journey with four London shows on March 19th, 20th, 22nd, and 23rd, followed by a hometown performance in Birmingham on March 26th. European enthusiasts can catch him in Berlin on May 28th, Paris on May 29th, and Amsterdam on May 30th. He also recently announced two USA shows, New York on May 6th and Los Angeles on May 7th.
The eagerly anticipated debut single, "Cry at the Moon," is an alt-indie track that promises to reveal a different facet of Simpson's musicality. The single is slated for release on March 22nd, and a 30-second teaser has already been unveiled, providing fans with a glimpse of what's in store.
The teaser features poignant lyrics encapsulating the essence of the song: "Now I cry at the moon, she don't shine quite like you. Am I wrapped up in chains? And I wonder what you do. Do you lay in the vines? Do your wishes come true? No matter what I say, no matter what you do, 'cause I'm crying at the moon."
Fans who pre-saved the single received an additional teaser with intriguing lyrics in the middle 8: "A little light, [No true?] that I can't get too soon. So cruel, so cruel, so cruel. Little light, like you do, that sunset over you. So cruel, so cruel, so cruel."
In a newsletter sent out to fans, Brad Simpson emphasized that The Vamps are not disbanding, offering reassurance to those concerned about the group's future. He shared insights into the inspiration behind "Cry at the Moon," revealing that the song's origins trace back to Los Angeles and draw influence from bands he listened to growing up, such as Queens of the Stone Age and The Raconteurs.
The announcement of Brad Simpson's solo endeavor heralds an exciting new chapter in his musical journey, leaving fans eager to witness the artist explore uncharted territories and showcase his individual artistry. As anticipation mounts for the debut single and upcoming live performances, it's evident that Brad Simpson is poised to leave his mark beyond the confines of The Vamps.
