Leanna Firestone’s “Keeping Score” is more than just a song—it’s an anthem for anyone who’s ever wrestled with the fine line between love and revenge. The energetic revenge-pop track already packs an emotional punch, but the release of its music video takes it to an entirely new level.
The video transforms Leanna’s internal conflict into a playful, visually stunning Western showdown. Inspired by her love for storytelling, the music video turns “Keeping Score” into a full-blown duel of emotions, blending humor and heartache with undeniable style. In an interview with Sweety High, Leanna revealed some surprising inspirations behind the concept, describing it as “Spy vs. Spy, mixed with an old western, mixed with the vaguely lesbian scene of Sue Sylvester marrying herself on Glee.” This quirky mix of influences comes together perfectly in a video that is as bold and unique as the song itself.
The narrative unfolds in a classic Old West setting, where Leanna takes on the roles of both dueling parties. It’s a clever way to visually represent the song’s theme of self-conflict, as she battles between seeking revenge and giving love another chance. “I brought it to life by pretending to experience self-love for the first time,” she joked.
Filming the video was an adventure of its own. The team only had a single day off from tour to shoot, making the process as spontaneous as it was fun. “We had some friends go shopping for us before we got there—shoutout to Meg, Julian, Sophie, and Catie—and had no idea what they were going to dress us like or how it was all going to come together,” Leanna shared. When everyone showed up in their boots and hats, it felt like a “real Tennessee dream,” she added.
From start to finish, the video brims with personality. The costumes, the saloon-like setting, and the dramatic yet playful energy all contribute to its charm. It’s the perfect visual counterpart to lyrics like:
“What do I do if I kinda want you / But I might want justice just a little more?”
The climax of the video aligns with the emotional resolution in the song. What begins as a tense duel ends with reconciliation, as the lyrics shift to:
“Let’s call it even / Decided that I’m keeping you instead of keeping score.”
Leanna’s creative vision, combined with her humor and vulnerability, make this music video a standout moment in her career. It’s a reminder of her ability to take personal experiences and turn them into something relatable, cinematic, and unforgettable.
If you haven’t seen the “Keeping Score” music video yet, it’s a must-watch. Whether you’re in it for the revenge-pop banger or the western-inspired aesthetics, you’re bound to come away loving Leanna’s take on love, heartbreak, and everything in between.
