‘On To The Next’: a step up for LOCK-IN

Written by: Aura R

This Hertfordshire five-piece have won early attention in the UK indie scene and have some nice accomplishments under their belt, like playing shows as special guests to Planet, Komparisson, The K’s and Spangled. And they have just completed a UK and European tour as special guests to Australia’s The Terrys, which included their first ever shows in Germany. All this while they’re still in their early twenties.

So it doesn’t come as a big surprise that their EP ‘On To The Next’ is a highly anticipated release this month. And they have delivered just about fifteen minutes worth of bangers.

Starting with the short instrumental song ‘Intro’ expect to be hooked right in.

Then going into the two singles the band released prior to the EP, ‘Easy’ and ‘Red Striped Remedy’. We move ‘On To The Next’, the title track, that’s an amazing guitar driven indie-rock/post-punk candy, great riffs and drums that coupled with the compelling vocals create a great musical moment.

Closing with ‘He Said She Said’, a rockier sound that leaves you wondering why this wasn't an album, because you’re definitely left wanting more.

Despite bringing to the table a pretty straight forward sound, without many of the elements mainstream music is showcasing these days, their sound is elevated and the production done by Curtis Elvidge of Ritual Sounds is on point, bringing up the best that I’ve heard from the band yet. Paired with the vocal quality and interpretation of the lyrics, makes a combination that puts LOCK-IN into a path of continuous growth.
