Artist Advent Calendar - Day 22: Pucker Up
Written by: Nadia Wegleski
It’s Day 22, and we’re turning the spotlight on Pucker Up, the band that knows how to bring the heat both on stage and in the studio. In this exclusive interview, they let us in on the wildest places they’ve written music (spoiler: it’s chaotic), their biggest lessons this year, and their dream holiday vibes. Plus, they share their favorite fan moments, unexpected playlist picks, and what makes their music so personal. If you’re looking for raw creativity and holiday spirit wrapped in one, this is it. Let’s dive in!
NW: What’s the weirdest thing that’s inspired a song?
Pucker Up: Facebook statuses from an unhinged man.
NW: Who’s an artist you’ve recently discovered?
Pucker Up: Killusonline — Speakeasy — FISHLORD — we played shows with them this past year and loved their sound.
NW: What’s the biggest thing you learned about yourself this year?
Pucker Up: As a band, I would say this year opened our eyes to how overcritical we can be on ourselves and the music we put out.
NW: What’s the strangest place you’ve ever written or recorded music?
Pucker Up: Standing in the bathroom line at the bar.
NW: If you could collab with any artist right now, who would it be?
Pucker Up: We genuinely can’t pick just one — we look up to so many artists.
NW: What was your most-played song this year?
Pucker Up: CREOLE.
NW: Do you have a favorite fan interaction from this year?
Pucker Up: We were all gifted a small batch of honey from a hobby beekeeper. Best honey ever!
NW: What’s a lyric from another artist that hits you hard every time?
Pucker Up: Anything by Touché Amore.
NW: What song of yours do you feel proudest of?
Pucker Up: We feel an overall sense of pride for all of our songs, as corny and vague as it may sound. Most, if not all of our songs were created in response to unfortunate personal experiences. We were able to turn those unfavorable experiences into music that people can dance, scream, and laugh to.
NW: Who’s the most unexpected artist on your playlist right now?
Pucker Up: Pinegrove. – Shug
NW: Do you have a favorite holiday movie?
Pucker Up: Does Wendell & Wild count as a Halloween movie? -Demi
NW: Are you more of a ‘decorate everything’ or ‘less is more’ type of person?
Pucker Up: As a whole, I think we’d all go with decorate everything.
NW: What’s the coolest holiday decoration you’ve ever seen?
Pucker Up: 12 ft. skeleton!
NW: Is there a city you’d love to spend the holidays in?
Pucker Up: Chicago. -Shug — New Orleans. -Demi — Nashville. -Tanner
NW: If you could invite any musician to your holiday dinner, who would it be?
Pucker Up: Hayley Williams.
