Dancing In The Rain - Hit List

Written by: Aura R.

The Aberdonian four-piece, Hitlist, is proving to be one of the upcoming Scottish bands to watch. Formed in 2021, they already have an interesting curriculum of gigs under their belt as a supporting act for the likes of The Snuts, The Sherlocks, and more recently, Skylights at the iconic venue King Tut's.

Their upcoming single, "Dancing In The Rain," set to release on Nov 24th, is a compelling tune that can catch you unawares. It starts with slow, stripped-down, haunting, raspy vocals accompanied by a great use of the drums' high-tops to set the beat. The song slowly picks up the pace, building up to a crashing chorus while adding more musical elements as the passionate and powerful vocals unfold, delivering the soulful lyrics. There’s an aerial sounding guitar and echoing distortion of the vocals reminiscent of Vistas or Sea Girls, but the added bass drums set the sound apart, infusing a heaviness and weight to the song just in the right measure to convey the feelings of longing in this artful rock ballad.

The smart use of a classic song structure, with the instruments piling up to add depth and more dynamism to the song, showcases the raw talent and great instinct this band has. These elements lay the groundwork for unexpected artistic growth for sure.
