Tears On The Underground – MOSAICS
Written by: Aura R.
Have you seen Killing Eve? If so, you might’ve already heard something from this Lincolnshire four-piece that came together in 2017, as their single "Weekend In Paris" was featured in the famous TV series. And it's no wonder one of their tunes features in a TV show, with their fresh sound and knack for observational lyricism, as they put it. But this is not the song that I'll introduce you to.
MOSAICS’ new single, "Tears On The Underground," is set for release this upcoming Friday, the 24th, and simply put, it’s a release you won’t want to miss out on. The song sets the tone immediately, placing us on a storytelling journey with a dynamic sound landscape that brings forth the use of production elements, incredibly well placed in a testament to the band’s years of experience.
You can sense many of the band's influences, like Sam Fender, but also there’s a new freshness and brightness to their sound that sets this single apart from their previous work. There’s some great build-up that provides a truly anthemic moment, plus some acoustic elements that accompany the beautifully layered sounds. The vocals have some pretty harmonies, and there’s even the added brass sound that gives the song an '80s feel.
In spite of the great dynamism of the song, the music manages to capture perfectly what the lyrics convey: a sadness that will pass and it’s okay if there are tears on the underground sometimes. After all, who hasn’t ugly cried in public at one point in their life?
