Sabrina Carpenter’s Vocals Shine in Retro-Style New Single, ‘Please, Please, Please’

Written by: Giulia Campora

Sabrina Carpenter has delivered another catchy tune for fans to bop their heads to. The ‘Espresso’ singer has been soaring to more well-deserved success, and this song suggests that she is an artist worth following.

The song begins with a retro-style background music, and by the 0:17 mark, Carpenter’s sweet vocals begin shining. In the first verse, she explains how she trusts the guy she is dating and doesn’t want him to make mistakes because she fears that she will leave him if he keeps acting that way.

By the chorus, Carpenter is begging the guy in question not to be bad towards all her loved ones, using witty sass and clever metaphors such as “don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice” and “heartbreak’s one thing, but ego is another,” accompanied by spectacular harmonies.

In the second verse, the ‘Eyes Wide Open’ singer jokingly suggests staying in and enjoying the fake happiness they have been experiencing, without anyone knowing they are together, just for a little longer. But she can’t avoid the truth forever, so the sentences lead seamlessly into the next chorus, just like before.

By the outro of the song, Carpenter has given up trying to change the guy’s personality. She warns him by saying, “if you wanna go and be stupid, don’t do it in front of me. If you don’t want to cry to my music, don’t make me hate you prolifically.” The song concludes with a run of harmonies as her voice and the background music die out.

This song is pure pop genius. Carpenter has turned her feelings into sentences that are all connected, allowing the listener to grasp the meaning of her lyrics. This is very promising, as we all are looking forward to Carpenter’s album, which is out on August 23rd. Don’t forget to check it out!
